About Larreastatin

In addition to selling medical supplies, Medical Rx also develops pharmaceuticals. Our primary focus is Larreastatin, noted for its antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. This ingredient offers benefits for a range of different health issues and appears in a variety of products.
The Origins of Larreastatin
The development of Larreastatin began during a review of historical literature detailing the uses of native desert plants for treating various medical conditions. Through this process, several candidates for possible drug development became apparent. Among them was Larrea tridentata (Cov.), commonly known as Larrea or creosote bush and formerly described as Larrea divaricata (Cav.).
Larrea is a shrubby plant that dominates some areas of the hot, dry deserts of the American Southwest in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas. This plant has long been used in folk medicine by Native Americans and European settlers to treat many disease conditions, including tuberculosis, bowel cramps, colds, rheumatism, neuritis, sciatica, and inflammation of the respiratory and intestinal tract (Timmerman 1977).
While much of the historical medical data relating to Larrea is anecdotal and vague, the abundance of the plant and the intriguing chemistry of the plant, especially the chemistry of the leaf resin, warranted further detailed study. For these reasons, Larrea tridentata became our company's first pharmaceutical development candidate.
